I have been playing with the Procreate App 

on my ipad at nighttime while we Netflix.

'While we Netflix.' Heheheh. Like it's a verb! 

 I took this background I had saved online and

uploaded it into the app to tangle on.

To make the background I used Daler Rowney 

Acrylic Artists Inks and water on a sheet of 

Hahnemühle Harmony Hot Pressed Watercolor 

 Paper. I did a whole bunch of backgrounds 

and saved them before I drew on them.

Glad I did, too! Cause I can tangle on all of them

in the Procreate app - as many times as I want to!

 The colors in this background don't really speak

of underwater sea life, but that is totally where

my brain went. So my pen went along for a

journey and we started tangling up some airways

and some printemps-armed-wavy-thingies

that I really like a lot!

 Gotta have shading to makes things have dimension.

I am still figuring this part out in the program,

so I tried 'flat marker' this time and I like it.

Overall. Still a learning process.

I liked the tangle combination so much I continued on

and added more of both tangles. 

I thought I was done, but I felt like the piece

needed one more little airways blob

in that upper corner. 

I was shading as I went along,

I didn't want to forget. 

And then I was finished. 

So much fun!

A whole little group of anemones. 

Maybe that is what I will name that

wavy-armed-blob-thingy!

 I am really having trouble getting motivated

to tangle. Zentangle. Meh. 

A lot of the zen has disappeared.

So I have been playing with the Procreate App

on my iPad. 

You know. Until the 'zen' makes a reappearance.

Above is Cherryl Moote's new tangle called

Hexonu.

It is addictive and really easy to draw. 

One block leads to another.

You know? I just realized that all this art

is tangled. Maybe I am just having trouble

sitting down putting pen to paper???

I worked on this one last night.

I used a fun background I made on a piece of

Hahnemühle Bamboo Mixed Media paper 

and imported it into Procreate.

 I set Procreate up to design in symmetrical radial

and started making lines. 

I love how whatever I draw in one section replicates

itself into the other 7 sections automatically. 

And I can change brushes and pen colors and line thicknesses.

 The hardest part for me is segueing from lines to curves.

But I managed just fine. 

I went from my own tangle pattern stack

 to another tangle of mine called

TootsieMoon. 

Those cute little dandelion puff balls are a

brush in the program. Everything else I drew. 

I am noticing when I use the iPad to create

I am not incorporating printemps.

That is kind of weird. 

And strange. 

Oh well.

Mixing paper art with digital art.

It is a win/win all around. 

Mermaid Journaling

This was a first for me. This piece of art started with a digital stamp I purchased from Aurora Wings on Etsy. The stamp itself is called LaMer, which means the sea. I colored her with copic markers, LolliZ gel pens,  and a clear glitter gelly roll pen. This is the most detailed copic thing I've done  and I love the way she turned out! LaMer is going to be part of a journal page with some other watercolor elements I've already made. Hopefully a post will come soon. I think I started this journal page about two months ago. Then life happened. As it so often does.

Quilted Challenge #35 - Thanks, Joey!

Joey's challenge this week was to tangle something quilt-like. With tangling that is a really easy thing to do. Pick any pattern in a grid format . . .

. . . and tangle away! For my quilt I used a basic florz pattern and worked from there. The quilting lines remind me of barbed wire, I may draw a step-out for that. Nothing to it really, very simple. Shading rounded out the sewn lines and gave a little puff appearance of quilt batting underneath. The color comes from Dylusions Ink Sprays. The quilt border itself is a piece of digital scrapbook paper. It really pulled my easy little quilted tile together and made it complete.

1ZAD - Day 3

One Zentangle a Day, so far I am getting the work done. Posting it on the same day might be an issue, though.

On day three we practiced pokeroot, festune, and hollibaugh. For our tile we were to use any of those, or any of the tangles we worked on during day the first two days. For my tile, I traced one onto the next page in my Hand Bound Journal from Dick Blick Arts. I don't always lay down the four corner dots, as you can see here. I just put down a simple string.

Then I started filling in tangles. Pokeroot has always been one of my absolute favorites! That and poke leaf. My intentions with this tile were to stick with the day three tangles, putting a little festune grouping in there somewhere . . .

. . . but I just realized looking at this sketchbook drawing - - - I forgot!

I pulled in knight's bridge and tipple from days one and two instead. This one was interesting for me. I decided to do hollibaugh not as filled as I usually do, and I liked blacking in some sections, while filling out others with tipple.  So, that was day three. I have day four almost completed, which is good since it is now February 5th. 
Kali and I are headed out the door in a few minutes. Back to the doctor's office for me, then on to Panama City to see the Broadway show Beauty and the Beast tonight. Yay!!!!! Keep calm and get your tangle on :).

Tiara Time

I've been trying all day to work on some art but just can't seem to accomplish a thing. So I finally gave up and sat down at the computer. Within a few minutes I had put this together. Easy to do in photoshop, but I think the technique would work in Microsoft Word (with maybe a few extra steps) or any other similar program.

I had been going through some of my stencils and stamps and came across this stamp sheet from Dylusions (I got mine from joggles.com, I think.) I zeroed in on the wording in the center of the top row.

Since the wording I wanted to use had to do with sparkling and tiaras, I thought of princesses, which immediately led me to my favorite colors (currently) of purple and pink. To make this color block, I opened a new file in photoshop. Then, using the brush tool, I selected a hot pink color and painted the color onto the top triangle portion of my canvas. Then I chose a purple and painted it onto the bottom portion. I did both of these at 100% opacity. Then I reduced the opacity to 50% and spot touched a few spots of lighter color onto each segment.

Next, I ran an action from mcpactions.com called Frosted Memories - Sliding, which caused the lines you see above. In that same action set, the Faded Edges step gave me the white edging you see around the canvas.

Then I typed the wording in a dark purple, using the font Zapfino. I saved that, then copy and pasted the same words over the purple, but in white. This gives you the shadow effect you see. Then I saved this file onto my desktop.

Now for the fun part - the layering. I thought about how I wanted my final product to be presented. I wanted to still use the colors pink and purple in a matted variation. I'm sure there must be an easier way to do this, but this is the way I know. I opened another new file in photoshop, painted the whole box purple, and saved it onto the desktop.

Then I opened another, painted it pink, and saved it onto the desktop.

I layered the boxes this way. I dragged the purple box onto a new file. It fit the entire new window. Then I dragged the pink box onto the top of the purple one. It covered the entire thing, so I held down the shift button, and used the arrows to reduce the size of the pink box. I dragged the smaller pink box flush to the lower right-hand corner. Next I dragged the text box onto the top of the pink and purple box. It covered the whole box, so again I held down the shift button and used the arrows to re-size the text box. I dragged it towards the upper left corner until I thought it looked fine. Last, I used a brush from Scrap Girls to make the scrolled accent in the lower corner. I saved the whole file as one piece and posted it here.

It really is easy to do. Please let me know if you need help. I have done something similar in microsoft Word, so I know it is possible. You just never know when you might have one of those princess and tiara-sparkly-stuff kind of days and need to know how to do this!
