Tealing the Tangles #tanglepatterns #airways #shiretown

Alice Hendon, tangle step outs for Shiretown
There has been so much discord in the tangle community lately.
One side against the other.
It has seriously diminished my love for the art.
I am trying to get it back by standing on my own,
not siding with either side.
You may have noticed my posts have changed more
to putting color on paper and playing on my iPad.

I thought maybe if I took my own tangle patterns
and made them look "more me" that would help
bring some of that happiness back.
You may have noticed just by looking around
my blog that the color teal is important to me.
Teal makes me happy.
It makes me smile.
So I thought if I framed my step outs in teal
that would make me feel better and it would
help me take my own stand.
For me.
So that is what I am doing.
Today I remind you of the tangles
Shiretown and Airways.
I hope you will use these patterns
and just have fun!
And if you do - I'd love to hear about it!

Two Tangles For You #tangleallaround #alicehendontangles

Alice Hendon, step out for All Boxed Up
I am hoping to transition all my tangles over
to teal boxes like these two.
I just like teal. Hahahaha!
Here are steps for making All Boxed Up
with straight lines and with wonky lines.
Super versatile tangle. You can seriously use it so
many ways. I used it in yesterday's post as well.
Feel free to pin to your Pinterest boards.
Alice Hendon, step out for Ribbon Rose
Ribbon Rose is the most recent tangle I've
published. Designing others for a couple books
I'm working on. So stayed tuned for those.
This past week saw Ribbon Rose featured on
the Tangle Patterns website, where you can
find literally hundreds of patterns to work with.
Here is a link directly to Ribbon Rose.
I will post the YouTube video link at the very
bottom of this post.

I have used it so many different ways, but this
is my favorite!

Please feel free to pin Ribbon Rose to your
Pinterest boards also.
Have a great Sunday!

appearance, yet they are arrived at in
different manners.

Nebula Step Out, a New Tangle to Try #hahnemühle #zentangleallaround

alicehendon.zentangle1.jpg
What are you tangling lately?
I seem to do a lot of underwater or outer space
crazy skies or gardens.
This new tangle called Nebula will work
very well for all of those.
Hahahahaha!
Alice Hendon, new tangle pattern Nebula
Here is an example of that outer space thing.
The background belongs to my dear friend
Geneviève Crabe.
She has a bunch of backgrounds in various
formats that you can purchase and download.
Makes your tangling a whole lot easier!
Here is a link to her store
You can't go wrong with pink and blue.
So that's what I chose to work with.
My tangle ringz just felt like a good fit with this
background, but I needed something else.
I added in a sweet little Lilah Bean spaceship
but I needed something floaty.
And that is when nebula came into play.
Yes, it is similar to Michele Beauchamp's
popsicles tangle,
but it has more flexibility, more possibilities.
Varying auras and fills and centers.
I love it!
Alice Hendon, new tangle pattern Nebula
And here you can see what happens when you
morph nebula into something bigger.
Hahaha!
I made this background on Bamboo Mixed Media paper
from Hahnemühle with Schmincke watercolors,
just swishing color here and there,
and when I was finished with
the color, nebula just popped into mind!
It was perfect with this background.

So. What do you think?
I need to tangle up a good ocean scene
using nebula and add that here.
I would love to see what you can do with
nebula!

Line Dance Tangle Pattern

step outs to tangle pattern line dance, Alice hendon
Many of you will already recognize this
tangle pattern of mine called Line Dance.
I detailed the steps to this pattern all the
way back in 2015, when it was published in
book in December of that year.

This was a sketch I did when we were putting the
book together. It was an idea for what to do
when you are stuck in a tangle rut and don't
know what to do next.
The steps in the first photo and the one above were
drawn before I had my cataract surgery, so please
overlook the unevenness and bumpiness.
Hahaha! I had no idea!
But . . . we all know in zentangle,
there are no mistakes.
art featuring tangle pattern line dance, Alice hendon
I put this tangle together three years ago and have been using it in art ever since.
It is a really easy pattern that anyone can draw.
And that means you.
art featuring tangle pattern line dance, Alice hendon
Here are some examples I tangled showing
various ways you can incorporate line dance.
art featuring tangle pattern line dance, Alice hendon
You can see it is a versatile tangle.
It fills areas, it sets areas apart,
it is fun and looks different every time.

And here you see even more Line Dance.

It is always a good idea when you copy a
new pattern into your sketchbook or journal
to make a note of the tangle name and
the designer.
It is considered courteous to give credit
when you can.

And I do believe Diana looks mighty fine standing
in front of all that lovely Line Dance!
See? You can even tangle on art journal pages.
Hahaha! Yep!

I want you to feel free to use my tangle
line dance.
That is why I designed it and took the time
to draw all those little boxes -
even if my cataracts made them look
better than they do.

If you need a tangle place to hang out,
please come over to Facebook and check out
I would love to have you join us there!

5 Petals, New Tangle from the Tangle Starts Planner #tanglestartsplanner

tangle patterns 5 Petals from Alice Hendon, Tangle Starts Planner
I was looking for something fun to post today
and I thought -
why not post a new tangle pattern from
my book the

5 Petals is super easy to draw.
You can fill that center in anyway you wish,
sometimes I use Printemps instead of tipple.
I just think tipple looks good with the little
stamen and seedpods that come out from the center.
The pattern relies on echoing lines,
fanning out from the petals.
Typically I use 5 petals (hence the name)
but you could really do this with however
many petals you like.
Have fun!
Hope you are having a great weekend!

New Tangle Pattern Airways

I like to use flowers in my tangling,
but not strictly for the floral aspect.
Sometimes I want my work to be
"representative" of something specific.
Say a dragon.
Most of the time I don't want it to be representative
of anything specific, but a floral design
would work well with the other tangles.
And even when I design something that looks
representative,
I like it to be comprised of legit tangles.
The center of airways is called ripped screen.
Circling that is a band of tagh.
The outer arms are a more organized version of
an original zentangle pattern called mysteria.
There are plenty of ways to switch up airways.
And plenty of ways to use it.
Not to mention plenty of places to tangle it up.
This is a wall in my studio.
Still have a long way to go on it,
but airways is making a real difference with it
so far.
And then there were all those Valentine's Day
ATCs I made and swapped.
Airways.
Have fun and give it a try.
I'd love to see what you do with it.

Cee-a-Mosa, New Tangle

Are you ready to try a new tangle?
Here is one I designed recently called
Cee-A-Mosa.
So named because the pods remind me
of the seed pods on the mimosa trees
in Florida.
Let's walk through the steps.
I began by drawing cee-a-mosa in a circle.
You do not have to draw it this way,
it works well in straight-ish lines also.
To set up this piece, I drew a double line circle,
then added the seed pods along the lines -
inside and outside.
Next, I auraed the entire piece.
If you are new to tangling,
auraing something basically means
outlining it.
Now, go inside the circle and add a seed podded
line across the middle. Before adding the aura,
add two perpendicular sets of lines,
then aura the first line.
(I found it works better if I add new podded lines
in between the pods of the existing lines.)
Add the seed pods, then aura.
 In that same crossing point,
go back and add one more set of podded lines
to each one.
Your sections are all set up.
Make sure each seed pod is blackened in.
Now there is the simple process of auraing each section . . .
. . . and keep filling sections, till you are done.
 Cee-a-mosa in the round completed.
Cee-a-mosa is a flexible tangle.
You can fill sections with it like I did here also.
Such a fun tangle.
I hope you will play with
cee-a-mosa
and make it your own!

2 More Days!!! And a New Tangle!

Are you ready for a new tangle?
Here are the steps for Diagonal²,
a versatile and useful tangle.
It's been a super busy past month
with us getting ready for our big move to Maine.
The truck will be here in two days
and we are closing in on being ready.

I had been saving this tangle on my desktop
to share with you.
I figured today would be a good day to share!
Diagonal² is super easy to draw.
It works well as a filler, a background,
or in stacks.

It can also fill specific sections of a string.
The possibilities of tangleations are endless!
Have fun playing with my new tangle.
I'll see you in a few days
once I am back up and running!
