Bubble Love Meets Narwal

 Here is another fun piece of art!

I loved creating this!

It features the tangles:

narwal (one of my all time favorites,) 

bubble love, zinger, fescue and printemps.

 I began by tangling the art on a sheet of ivory

Stonehenge 8" x 8", 90 lb. weight.

 I wanted to be able to show this piece in shaded

format as well as colored, so I made a copy

on card stock and shaded the copy. 

I really like the shaded version and the depth it has . . . 

. . . but color really sings to me. 

I used copic sketch markers to add color.

All the shading is done with copics. 

Narwal and bubble love are not tangles I would

normally choose to go together, 

but I am very happy with the way this

piece of art turned out.

Airport Tangling from Last Trip

Relaxing With Narwal

We are finally all settled in and my office/studio is looking pretty good. And workable. Now if I can just keep it clean. As if. Hahahahahaha!
I've spent the past few days in Bar Harbor, Maine, working on some art but mostly relaxing. And eating. Photos will come soon.
This is a piece I started some time ago, but saved the shading. I dislike shading intensely but it makes such a difference in your  finished work. Perservere and do it. It really is worth the effort. (And I love drawing narwal, so that was an added bonus.)

Narwal Again

This narwal tangle is so much fun to draw!

I would use it in every drawing if I didn't worry

that you would get sick of seeing it!

Hahaha!

Same thing with printemps - those little swirly things - 

actually I do use those in every drawing.

Probably.

Ringz, A New Tangle

Allow me to introduce you to a fun little tangle, that is easy and joyful to make! Ringz. So named because of all the little rings I drew  making this alien looking work of fun-ness.

I drew this in the Detroit airport during a layover flight. I needed something easy to do as I balanced my sketchbook on my lap, along with my ipad and my earphones. I had been obsessed with these little eyeballs and needed somewhere to use them, and in the Detroit airport ringz was born.

Ringz is really very easy to tangle. Start with a circle and start adding rings under that, building one below the one before it. I decided to make mine as arms extended from a central point. Then I added the little wink of an eye at the end.

I began layering them with circles of various tangles. And ringz just kind of took on a life of its own.

Hahaha! Another tangle I love right now is narwal. Ringz, narwal, and printemps were made for each other!

Here I was going for some heavy contrast, so I pulled in another tangle of mine -  patch -  and filled those large circles with it. Shading makes the big difference in this piece of art.

It's all about the details.

Wiggle Worms

 I must apologize for my lack of consistent blogging.

I am currently working on a special project

that I hope to be able to tell you about in a couple weeks.

It will be worth the wait,

I guarantee it!

What you see here is a new tangle I've been working on.

It's called ringz. 

Reminds me of when my dad used to call me a wiggle worm!

I hope to post the step outs here before long.

Ringz is super simple to draw. For color here I used my relatively new LolliZ Gell Pens. Super cool pens. Lots of glitz and sparkle, and smooth and metallic.  Anything you could wish for in a gell pen. Tangled up on my wonderful Stonehenge paper!

Narwal and Bublz

What a fun piece to make! The color comes from Brushos Crystals, you literally sprinkle them onto wet paper and watch them work. No science, no thought process, just water wash the paper and sprinkle.
After the beautiful color is completely dry, tangle with your favorite pen. My current pen of preference is the Sharpie Fine Point.
Tangles in this beauty include: bubble wrap, bublz, dandelion, O'Cee, and narwal.

Lolliz, a New Gel Pen

 Ok, so I will just say it.

I am fascinated with this new tangle narwal.

I keep drawing it over and over and over.

Here I wrapped it into a wreath and added some floral.

 This is my before-I-added-color-and-shading look.

Good crisp lines,

a little narwal mixed with my tangle floral.

 I added some whisps and zingers.

 Then I pulled out some new color.

I don't use gel pens a lot, but they seemed to be

perfect for this piece.

LolliZ, a new gel pen I just got in recently.

And they worked like a champ!

 I really like the packaging on these pens.

There are four trays of pens inside the case.

Some regular gel pens,

some metallic,

some sparkly,

some milky,

and something else I don't recall right now.

(And I'm too lazy to get up and go look.)

They drew and filled in the spaces smoothly and evenly.

 And the colors were great!

I think my favorite was that darker gold.

It is sparkly and shiny, 

though you can't see that too well here.

I love how the printemps centers look!

Completed version post-shading. I really like the way this narwal turned wreath turned out and the lolliz pens were better than I had hoped for!

I Just Love Narwal!

I just can not make myself stop drawing narwal! I see it every day on facebook, on pinterest, on blogs, everyone loves a good narwal. I have been experimenting. Tangling in different directions. Tangling in curves. Mixing it with other tangles. Narwal. I can not stop! I may need an intervention.

My First Narwals

Narwal is this great new tangle from CZT Samantha Taylor.

Her video made a lot more sense to me than the step outs. 

I understood the curving line - sort of - but I wanted to see if 

I could draw the tangle in a bigger curve.

Like a circle.

I couldn't stand those big empty spaces in the narwal,

so I aruared them and shaded.

Shading looks really cool in this tangle.

 I also like to fill spaces with printemps and make them fall out the side.

Hahahahah!

I think I'm finally getting better at it.

It's only been three years.

I hear some of you saying that there might be hope for you. Definitely. Keep it up. The shading will come.
I am predicting that narwal is going to be huge! I'm seeing it pop up in literally every zentangle Facebook page I look at. Why don't you check out the links at the very top of this post, look at the step outs and watch the video, then give narwal a try. I am going to go do some more! I love narwal!
