The Garden
I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses,
and the voice I hear falling on my ear
the Son of God discloses.
He speaks and the sound of His voice
is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
and the melody that He gave to me
within my heart is ringing.
I'd stay in the garden with Him
though the night around me be falling,
but He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
and He tells me I am His own;
and the joy we share as we tarry there,
none other has ever known.
~ C. Austin Miles, 1912 ~
I didn't start out with this song in mind, it just seemed to fit when I sat down to make this post. We've had a lot going on in our lives lately and I've spent some time wishing my dad was still alive. I think he'd be thrilled to see my son and his wife as they prepare for their first child. I believe Dad would be excited for my daughter as she begins her journey to a career in the pastry industry. Dad would be proud of both my children. I can see him now sitting in his rocking chair, one foot tucked up under the other leg, pushing and rocking with his right foot. This song was one of his all-time favorites. So I'm not really surprised that this song popped into mind. He's been gone almost seven years, but it's just like yesterday.

DeleteBeautiful - I know. Dad's been gone almost 9 years & Mum almost 5 & i know what you mean about missing their excitement over what we're undertaking. My artistic journey resulted from the small gift of a paper embossing kit Mum bought for me just before she died.
ReplyDeleteWith much love & a hug.

DeleteAlice your flowers and tangle are beautiful and your song is so nice, when I was an early teen I taught myself that song by playing the notes & singing it. It was in a hymn book that my sister had from Bible School. I like the song. I now your heart with thinking of your children & your father. I can related to the pride that they would have known by seeing our children. Thanks for inspiring me! Hugs, Sheila
