Pear . . . Pear??? Yes! APR #18

just add water silly's blog hop link
Photobucket
When Jenn said this week's challenge in the Artist's Play Room was going to be pears, I thought . . . pears???? Turns out she was serious - hahaha! I've never drawn a piece of food in my life. I figured this would be one challenge I would wait out and see what she had to offer next :). But - last night I had a few minutes and thought, why not. I surprised even myself with the above drawing, which I colored with my Derwent Inktense Pencils - love those pencils! At first I was going to tangle the pears, but I figured I'd better quit while I was ahead.

Then tonight - I thought I'd make a special pear. I was looking at princess quotes for something else I was working on for facebook and had this idea. So. For all the princesses - here you go - cause once you are a princess, you are always a princess! Thank goodness, too, cause who doesn't want to be a princess!

Visit the Artist's Play Room here to check out all the pear offerings - and I promise they will be more serious - and artistic - than mine!

I am also going to use my tangled Princess Pear for the ZIA Challenge this week - tangled fruit. You can check them out here:

Triangle Party!

Photobucket
It's a party over at Tangles and Stuff! This week's ZIA challenge was to use triangles as a string. Hence, a triangle party! I am really enjoying these challenges each week - thanks for hosting them :). This past week has been tough - creatively - I guess I have too much going on in my life. I was able to complete this page in my newish mini Smash Journal! I really like the size of the book, the spiral binding, and the smoothness of the pages. Haha! If you noticed my notations - "no weave" and "no betweed" - it's because I've been using those two patterns entirely too much lately! You can check out other triangle tangles - and join the party! - here.

Monsters and Giraffes :)

Photobucket
If you read yesterday's post you will recall that I was working on a project for Tangles and Stuff using blue painter's tape, watercolor paints, and tangles. I wanted to do another because it was fun! I actually meant to do the tangles on the colored portions this time, but I got carried away with the shapes caused by the tape and forgot. :( BUT - I like the way this turned out. I went totally out of my comfort zone by drawing animals and crazy stuff I'm not used to. What a hoot! I've got a bowl full of kitties, some singing birds, a snail, a tulip, a monster, some beans, a giraffe, a princess castle, a cat, and some crazy BTL Joos stuff!

We are still floating in water from Tropical Storm Debby. We need to get hay out to the horses and donkeys in the morning and I'm kind of concerned with how that's going to work out. The water in the roadway yesterday was waist-deep in some areas and it has been raining ever since. Literally ever since. Joy! Can't we please send some of this rain out to Colorado??? Please???

Tape the String - ZIA Journal #25

Photobucket
The ZIA Journal challenge at Tangles and Stuff is called Tape the String this week. To do that, I took a sheet of watercolor paper and randomly placed blue painter's tape on it. Some pieces wide, and some torn into thinner strips. With the tape in place, I slapped on some watercolor paint.
Photobucket
When the paint dried, I dropped drips of paint on to the page and blew them around with a straw. Once all this was dry I removed the blue strips of painter's tape. In those white spaces I added various tangle patterns. I might do this again tomorrow and tangle the painted areas. We'll see. This was a load of fun to do! And I love the bright colors - I am all about the color! If you'd like to join in this week's challenge and play with tape - check it out here at Tangles and Stuff :).

Mono y Mono Challenge

Photobucket
This past week at Tangles and Stuff, challenge #24 was Mono-Mono. We were to use the same tangle in all portions of our tile. If we used color, we were to stay monochromatic. For my tangle I used Crete - it's one of my own that I've been playing around with.
Photobucket
Here is the step by step for Crete.

I posted this awhile back. Crete comprised the major portion of the background. It can have many different looks, depending on how you use it. Fun challenge! Check it out at Tangle and Stuff here.

Mooka Challenge

Photobucket
Last week, Tangles and Stuff gave us the challenge to use mooka in our journal and to use a quote, or to write something of meaning to us.  (I had never drawn mooka successfully, so I was determined to make this work!) Sunday morning, Pastor Matt repeated this verse several times. It was the focus of his message. It is important for us to know we can look to God when trials hit, and in good times, too!

We had a few new trials hit yesterday - a health issue in our blood-related family, and a death in our speech and debate extended family. Lots of tears being shed over the southeastern United States, from teenagers and adults alike. I am thankful that Pastor Matt - who has own challenge going on - took the time to share this one verse. Look to Him who is invisible!

I gave this tile to my daughter, who is dealing with the loss of a friend today. Please help me pray her and our speech/debate family through this loss of Justin, who was so loved!

And, take a minute to visit Tangles and Stuff, what a wonderful blog!
