When I went to the CZT training last month, Maria and Rick gave each of us a wonderful bound journal to take notes in. Maria refers to these as field journals. I wish I had understood a little better how we would want to keep these and use them and refer back to them over and over and over. I would have written more legibly. I would have been more precise and deliberate with my sketches. Since I've been home I have taken time to work on some tangles in my journal, some that I had been having problems with. Here you can see that I traced a tile twice and worked on several patterns. I think I will continue this - as a quick reference/refresher - and continue labeling as I go. Just a little something I worked on a couple days ago. Where do you keep your notes? How do you recall the patterns and what they look like? If you are traveling and don't have easy access to the internet and Linda's tanglepatterns.com, this might be one answer.
I'm using a sketch Moleskine - A5 size - for my tangling course to keep a record of my growth & a ring binder with my patterns that I'm learning. I'm going to try to sort something out for the patterns alone - maybe my small grid notebook. Thanks for posting these pieces - helpful to see work in progress. Paula (PEP)
you're welcome, paula. your set-up sounds like mine. journal, binder, i have my finished tiles in a binder, too with some sheet protectors i found that they fit into. who is reaching your course?
I have to start something, myself. So far I have some small sketches on scraps of paper and I go online to tangles.com. But I do need to figure out some way to draw and store tangles. That's a great idea! :)
rita - i also have a 3-ring binder full of page protectors. whenever i find new patterns online - either from tanglepatterns, or from sandra strait, or pinterest :) - i drag several of them into a word document, print it out and stick them in a page protector. i have 3 notebooks of patterns. that's why i need something small and portable to keep my favorites in :)
i also have several pinterest boards of zentangle stuff - 3 of them are just patterns - i call them how-to's - if you are interested, there's a link here in my sidebar called "visit my zentangle pinterest'
On the video page I have a couple of videos showing how I use two programs to keep everything in order. Will be interesting to follow-up and see what you decide - always looking for ways to make it easier to keep track of everything.
thanks! i just scanned through the pages on evernote and snagit. i pinned them and will go back and read more when i have a bit more time. thanks for the links!

I use both hands on and electronic solutions to keep track of patterns. Here's one of my blog posts that I keep updating when I add a new tool.
